Show Me WherePictures for clearer appointments

Important information

An illustration tool, not a medical device

Last updated 13 October 2026

Show Me Where helps people talk about the body. It is not used to diagnose, measure, monitor or treat anyone.

What it’s for

Show Me Where provides simplified, adjustable pictures of the body so that a healthcare professional can explain something to a patient, and a patient can ask better questions. It is general information and communication support, in the same way as a diagram in a leaflet or a plastic model on a clinic desk.

What it is not

  • It does not diagnose any condition or stage any disease.
  • It does not take in or analyse scans, images or test results.
  • It does not recommend, rank or choose treatment. In the explorers, the clinician picks the option to show.
  • It is not a substitute for a scan report, a clinical examination or professional advice.

The pictures are simplified

The models are drawn from typical adult anatomy and are deliberately simple. Real bodies vary, and shapes, sizes and positions are approximate. Numbers shown on screen, such as distances or margins, are calculated from the model to keep the picture consistent. They are not measurements of any person. Always rely on the actual report and your clinical team.

For patients

Use what you see here to help you understand and to ask questions. Don’t use it to make decisions on your own, and don’t change or delay any treatment because of it. If you’re worried about a symptom, contact your GP, your specialist team, or NHS 111. In an emergency, call 999.

For clinicians

You remain responsible for what you explain and how you use the pictures. Check that the set-up matches the patient’s report before discussing it, and check any picture sheet before giving it to the patient.

Content and accuracy

We work to keep content accurate and in line with current UK practice, and new areas are developed with practising clinicians. Even so, it is provided as it is, without guarantee that it is complete, current or suitable for any particular person. If you spot something wrong, please tell us at hello@showmewhere.org.uk.
